Grand Banks – Round Jersey Island Trip with Beach Landing

This trip is certainly one of my most enjoyable trips I have had.  The weather and sea conditions were absolutely perfect.

We just had a plan to circumnavigate the Island of Jersey C.I.  We had an easy passage along the South coast from St Helier to Corbiere, on rounding Corbiere there was a large pod of dolphins, the were in a feeding and had no interest in us.  Not wishing to disturb then we enjoyed watching them as best we could while keeping a constant course and speed. When not feeding the dolphins will regularly ride our bow wave and stay with is for quite some time, which is always a treat.

Our passage takes us up the West coast in a Northerly direction.  The long sandy beach along this coast is perfect for surfing m but we must move on with our passage.  We round  Grosnez point which some time can be choppy due to shallow waters and strong tidal runs which occur at that point, but we enjoy a smooth passage round to the North coast.

The North coast is mainly cliffs rising some three hundred foot from sea level, with numerous caves, sandy bays and drying out harbours.  We found a quite bay to set anchor then take a the dinghy to one of the many pristine sandy beaches with a deep cave, then explore some of the smaller caves.

We stowed away the dinghy, warmed up the engines, weighted the anchor and enjoyed the passage along the remainder of the North coast and rounded the North East corner of the Island before  running down the East coast.  We were lucky enough to be joined by a lone dolphin which played on the bow for a while.

On the way back to St Helier we also saw the Manche Iles passenger ferry which runs from France to the Channel Islands on the East coast.  We held out side of St Helier while we waited for Condor Liberation and Commodore Clipper to clear before we were able to enter the harbour.

Thank you for watching.
