This is a review video of the Groov>>e Solar Charger. I have owned this charger for a while and have been testing it. The charger can either be charged via a USB cable or the built in Solar Panel.
The Groove charger has a standard USB output port to connect a USB cable to charge most devices which is normally charged via USB such as a mobile phone, mp3 player, GPS etc…. There is an import micro USB port to charge the Groove charger. An on/off switch as it is necessary to turn on the charger to start charging the devise to be charged and will automatically turn its self off when the device being charged is full. The charger will discharge at either 1 amp or 2 amps 5 volts which is automatically selected depending on the device being charged. There is a four light indicator which indicates the level of charge of the charger. The lights extinguish as the charger discharges. The charger comes with a carry bag and a USB charger cable with an number of adapters to fit different devices.
The biggest question is does the solar panel work? I tried charger the unit on the dashboard of my Landrover over a period of three days and found that there was no noticeable increase on the charge level of the charger. To be fair, the test was carried out in November and I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands which is South of the UK. I suspect that the test would be more favourable if it was in the summer and further south like the South of France, Spain or in the Caribbean. If I achieve better test results in the summer I will update this post. I tend to find that such storage battery devices slowly discharge so when your need them they are not holding a full charge. I thing that this unit with the build in solar panel will stop the discharge happening because it has a slow trickle charge affect.
Would I recommend this unit, the answer is yes, but that depends on how the unit is intended to be used. If it is intended that the solar panel is going to be the sole source of energy for say a camping trip then you would be disappointed, if the unit is going to be charged up via a mains or 12 volt source then used as a top up battery/charger with the solar panel being used to keep the charger toped up than this unit is great.
