This video is a marina to marina passage departing from Carteret in France to St Helier in Jersey C.I. We had spent a week in Carteret enjoying the French village, culture great food and wine. Carteret is a favourite destination of ours and visit regularly.
Unfortunately our visit time is at an end and it is time to make our passage home. It takes a while to get out of the estuary so, parts of the estuary have been cut out and the video speeded up. The estuary passes the old harbour, the new sailing school building, the village of Carteret, the fishing port and ferry port then out to sea.
The water is shallow and the sea can be choppy outside of the estuary, but on this day the sea is calm at the beginning of the passage. We settle down to our usual passage setting the auto pilot to enable us to enjoy the passage. We are soon joined by a pod of dolphins which are happy to play on our bow wave for a while.
The sea slightly deteriorates to the South East of Jersey although we are comfortable and our fantastic Grand Banks 36 handles the sea beautifully and we enjoy the passage at the saloon helm.
There are many pots on the passage to negotiate and I suspect that we have caught a pot rope as there is a little vibration of the starboard engine. It was our original plan to enter the harbour and dock at out marina birth. We changed out plan to check out the props for debris. We anchored in Belcroute Bay where it was sheltered and I dive to check out the props where I find a short rope still on the starboard prop. I expected a ball of rope which I was prepared to cut away. I was surprised to find a short section of rope which was easily removed. The rope cutters did a fine job in keeping the props turning. I also checked the Port prop which was found to be clear of any debris and we made out way back to out birth.
