This our third day on our French canal adventure. We woke up to another beautiful October day with blue skies, sunshine and the canal water like glass. While the days are relatively warm for the time of year, the nights were somewhat chilly, but we were warm enough in the boat with the heating working well.
We had stopped short of our first lock which would not be open until 9am, so we had time for a leisurely breakfast washed down with a few cups of coffee. After starting and warming up the engine we slipped the lines and made our way to the first lock where the lock keeper was waiting for us.
The landscape is very open in areas with areas of tree lining the canals. At our second lock we were instructed to move to the front of the lock for the first time then held waiting. We eventually found out why. For the first time we were joined by another hire vessel. They entered the lock with a bit of a bump….As they appeared to be in a bit of a hurry, after leaving he lock we expected them to overtake us but they decided to tie up on the canal side. We never saw them again, we guessed that they were going to turn around on a return leg.
Enjoy, thank you for watching.
