This is our second day on our French canal adventure. We woke to thick mist on the water so we decided to wait until it cleared sufficiently to make safe passage which gave us time to explore the village some more and take some video of the marina.
The weather soon cleared with blue skies, sunshine and very little boat traffic. We found the lock keepers to be very helpful in this area, phoning ahead onto the next lock keeper to let them know that we were on our way. Most of the lock keepers are operating a number of locks and after they let you through the locks they drive to the next lock to help you through. It is brilliant being helped through the locks, although we found that they wanted to know when you were stopping and when you may be due at the next lock which was helpful, but did make you feel that you had to keep to a schedule which is not what the trip was about.
Our destination for the second day was Sury-Pres-Leve. We glided past beautiful country side, passed villages, under bridges and through a number of locks. We soon got the hang of the locks and the transit was easy going. We were overtaken by joggers and when we saw the mad busy traffic the drivers waved and tooted their horns.
The great thing with the canals, is that you can stop almost any where. Just pull over, hammer in a couple of steel pegs, tie up and take lunch, visit villages or just enjoy the country side.
